Le Louvre

“Paris, queen of the world …” The international reputation of the capital of France is one of the most popular destinations in the world, for many reasons.

Paris covers over 500,000 km2 and is inhabited by more than 2 million people (almost 12 million including the surrounding suburbs).

They speak French, and the currency used is the Euro.

Transportation

Arriving in Paris

Paris has two main airports, Orly and Charles de Gaulle, also known as Roissy. You can reach the center of Paris easily by bus. The Orlybus goes to Denfert-Rochereau and Roissybus serves the Opera metro station. From Orly, it is also possible to take the subway called Orlyval.

In Paris

Paris is a great city, and to get from one point to another you’ll probably need to use public transport: bus, metro, RER. The company that manages public transport in Paris is called the RATP.

Taking the metro can be unpleasant during rush hour, but you may want to use it anyway to visit some of the beautiful stations. Do not miss the following stations: Abbesses, Arts et Metiers, Palais Royal and Pont Neuf.

You can also discover Paris by boat, along the Seine. Weather permitting, you should absolutely walk or bike too.  The bicycle leasing system with terminals throughout the city, the Vélib, is perfect.  If you plan to visit many areas of Paris in a few days, it is recommended to purchase the package offered by the RATP, the Paris Visite. This package is valid for 1, 2, 3 or 5 consecutive days, on zones 1 to 3 or 1 to 6, and costs between 9-50 euros depending on the plan you choose. There are other options to suit all needs, please inquire at the RATP desk upon arrival for maximum savings. The Paris Metro is very developed and offers you access to all points of interest fairly quickly.

Unless you have a good knowledge of Paris, or an effective co-pilot, do not do your travel by car.
